“Via Mali, Morocco and the Canaries - shifts in routes and methods in human smuggling in West and North-West Africa”

A Talk by Flore Berger , Tasnim Abderrahim and Lucia Bird

About this Talk

This event is based on the recently published report series: Human smuggling and trafficking ecosystems - North Africa and the Sahel covering changing dynamics in Libya, Tunisia, Morocco, Niger, Chad and Mali. The 2023 series follows the rebounding importance of smuggling from and through Libya, Tunisia, Morocco, Niger, Chad and Mali and the ways in which dynamics play out differently in the individual countries in focus, as the global economic picture worsens, governance strains become more pronounced, and peace and security challenges rise.

This event will present the main findings of the Mali and Morocco country-focused research reports covering shifts in irregular migratory flows in West and North-West Africa in 2022, including human smuggling dynamics in the Canary Islands.
