Romain Le Cour Grandmaison is a Senior Expert at the GI-TOC. His work focuses on Criminal Organizations and Governance, State and Violence, and Public Security in Mexico and Central America.
Romain holds a MA. in International Affairs and Security Studies from Sciences Po Paris, and a PhD. in Political Science from the Sorbonne University. He has been a Research and Visiting Fellow at Columbia University; at the University of California, San Diego (USMEX Center); and at the Universidad Ibero in Mexico City.
Since the beginning of his career, he led parallel activities in academia and civil society, acting as Consultant and Researcher for several NGOs and UN Agencies, such as UNODC. He is also the Co-founder of the think tank Noria Research, where he oversaw strategic development, and the creation of the Mexico & Central America Program. Recently, he acted as Program Officer for Public Security and Violence Reduction at the think tank México Evalúa.
Since he started working in Mexico in 2013, Romain has conducted more than 4 years of cumulated fieldwork in the country, covering dynamics of violence, arms trafficking, public security, and organized crime. Romain has also published several academic papers, policy articles, and op-eds in international media, and co-edited a book released at Karthala Edition in 2019.
Romain speaks and can work in French, English, Spanish and Italian.
