Ray Jansen is a professor at Tshwane University of Technology. He founded the non-profit organization ‘the African Pangolin Working Group’ and also founding member and Africa Chair of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature Species Survival Commission Pangolin Specialist Group (IUCN SSC PSG). Since then, he has been heavily involved in the response to pangolin trafficking in South Africa, which has included acting as an agent in upwards of 100 intelligence-driven police operations recovering pangolins from smuggling networks and presenting testimony in aggravation in more than 30 court cases.
