Edward Banda (ACAZ, LLB, Cert)

Edward is a Legal Practitioner currently holding the position of Legal Officer in Wildlife Crime Prevention Zambia (WCP) and an Advocate of the Court of Appeal of Zambia. Edward obtained his Bachelor of Laws Degree from the Zambia Open University in 2016 and was Admitted to the Zambian Bar in 2021. In 2017, Edward lectured business tourism Law at the Zambia Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Studies. Before then, Edward obtained a Certificate in Basic Prosecution from National Institute of Public Administration in 2009. Edward has been working as a lawyer in conservation since 2022 when he joined WCP but previously worked as a defence lawyer with Legal Aid Board Zambia since 2019.

Edward has vast experience as a defense counsel and through his position at WCP, he now applies his skills in the conservation sector by assisting the Department of National Parks and Wildlife in Zambia (DNPW) with court case monitoring of wildlife and environmental crimes, facilitating pre-trials between officers from DNPW and Public Prosecutors from the National Prosecution Authority (NPA), giving legal opinions on changes in conservation and environmental protection legislation, facilitating capacity building training workshops for DNPW officers, Public Prosecutors and Forestry officers from the Forestry Department Zambia (FD) and helping to build relationships between the officers from DNPW, FD and NPA for enhanced collaboration in their conservation efforts.

Edward remains dedicated to conservation and among his notable achievements is the co-prosecution of a wildlife case with the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in 2023.
