Mr. Daniel Amankwaah is a Principal Programme Officer, Law enforcement (Drug) at the ECOWAS Commission. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and French in 1994 from the University of Ghana where he also earned his post first degree in Law (LLB) in 2007. He completed a professional Law course and was called to the Ghanaian Bar as a lawyer in October, 2010. Amankwaah is a Hubert Humphrey Fellow who completed a Graduate study and professional development in Criminal Justice and Substance Abuse, at the Virginia Commonwealth University, USA in 2009. In 2014, Daniel obtained a master’s degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy from the University of Ghana. Daniel has headed various positions at the Ghana Narcotics Control Board where he worked for 20 years before moving to the regional body, ECOWAS Commission based in Abuja Nigeria. He is currently the head of the ECOWAS Drug Unit. He was also the project manager for EU funded Support to ECOWAS Drug Unit Advocacy, Monitoring and Coordination Capacities (2016-2019). Daniel researched for his Master’s Degree and published a paper on An Alternative to Incarceration of Drug Users: A Comparative Study of Ghana and the United States. Daniel is an advocate for the implementation of Drug Court System in West Africa.
